Editorial Standards
The principles behind every article in the journal.
Readers come to Home Guard Journal for information that affects their safety and the safety of their families. We take that responsibility seriously. These standards describe how we research, write, review and correct our work.
Our mission
To give responsible adults clear, calm, practical information about personal and home protection, including concealed carry, permits, home security, preparedness, training and responsible ownership, so they can make informed decisions and build good habits.
Research and sourcing
- For legal topics, we rely on official sources, such as state agencies that issue permits and state government publications, and we describe the law in general terms.
- For safety topics, we draw on widely accepted safety practices taught by firearms instructors and published by safety and emergency preparedness organizations.
- We do not invent statistics, quotes, testimonials, experts or endorsements. When we cite a number, it comes from a source we can identify.
How we handle the law
Laws vary by state, change often and depend on individual circumstances. For that reason we explain general concepts rather than giving legal advice, we avoid presenting any one state’s rules as universal, and we consistently encourage readers to check their state’s current rules and to consult a qualified attorney when needed. We also avoid making claims about how any government agency will handle an individual application.
Safety in every article
Every article that touches on firearms reflects established safe handling and storage practices. We will not publish content that encourages unsafe, unlawful or reckless behavior.
Tone and independence
We write in a calm, respectful voice. We avoid sensationalism, fear-based headlines and partisan politics. Our editorial articles do not endorse specific manufacturers or brands.
Advertising and editorial separation
Home Guard Journal is supported by advertising and partner programs, as explained in our Advertising Disclosure. Sponsored content and advertorials are clearly labeled as such, and they are distinct from our regular editorial articles.
Images
Photographs and illustrations on the Site are illustrative. Some are created with digital imaging tools. They do not depict real readers, customers or specific events, and they are not intended to show any particular product.
Review and updates
Articles are reviewed before publication for accuracy, clarity and safety. Because laws and best practices change, we periodically review published articles and update them when needed, noting meaningful updates.
Corrections
If we get something wrong, we want to fix it. Please send corrections to support@homeguardjournal.com with the article title and the specific issue. We review every correction request and update articles when an error is confirmed.
